I've just proofread an 80-word translation that had one mistranslation, one terminology issue, and three instances of inconsistency. This was not a technical text, it was an easy-peasy product description. It should be mentioned that the translation was originally a MTPE job. On the one hand, I could point out that machine translation always carries all these risks and more, and that some errors can go unnoticed. On the other hand, I can't really understand how an 80-word text could still have such a high density of issues after post-editing. So I'll just say this:- As translators, it's up to each of us to prove humans can produce better output than AI. Every translation or editing job we do counts.- Translation clients and agencies need to remember it's always a good idea to choose their translators carefully.
